Behind DeskRabbit
Pieter Esterhuizen
Senior Scrum Master / Agile Delivery Lead
I started my technology career in 2001 as a desktop support technician, driven by a curiosity with technology and its potential to make people’s lives easier. Over the next two decades, I worked across a wide range of technical roles, supporting everything from critical enterprise systems to large-scale platforms. What kept me engaged was the constant evolution of technology and the challenge of solving meaningful problems.
Along the way, I had the opportunity to work across the telecommunications, financial services, and dairy industries throughout Africa and Australasia. I’ve worked with global organisations employing thousands of people, as well as small start-ups finding their feet. While the industries, technologies, and business challenges were often very different, one thing remained remarkably consistent: success always came down to people.
After many years on the technical side of the industry, I realised that the real value behind any technology lies not in the systems themselves, but in the people who build, support, and use them. That realisation shifted my focus. Today, my passion is helping teams perform at their best by creating environments where people feel supported, trusted, and able to do great work.
I care deeply about the people behind the delivery. The developers solving difficult problems, the testers protecting quality, the analysts connecting the dots, and the leaders trying to navigate complexity. Metrics have their place, but people come first.
Time and again, I’ve seen the same outcome. When teams feel valued, supported, and connected to a shared purpose, they deliver better quality work, more consistently, and with far greater satisfaction. The best teams I’ve worked with didn’t fear Monday mornings. They looked forward to what they could achieve together.
I’d Love to Help Your Team!
I Am An Experienced…
Senior Scrum Master
I believe great results come from empowered people and healthy teams. As a Senior Scrum Master, I help create an environment where individuals feel supported, teams can collaborate effectively, and challenges are addressed before they become barriers to success.
Agile Coach
Change is ultimately about people, not processes. I work alongside teams and leaders to build confidence, strengthen relationships, and foster ways of working that help people adapt, grow, and thrive together.
Delivery Lead
Successful delivery is about more than meeting deadlines. I bring people together around a shared purpose, helping teams and stakeholders navigate complexity, make informed decisions, and achieve outcomes that matter.
Facilitator
The best ideas often emerge when people feel heard and included. I create engaging and collaborative spaces where individuals can contribute openly, explore different perspectives, and work together toward meaningful outcomes.
Team Performance Coach
High-performing teams are built on trust, communication, and a genuine commitment to one another’s success. I help teams strengthen these foundations, unlock their potential, and create a culture where people can do their best work and enjoy doing it.
My Approach & Philosophy
Technology projects are delivered by people, not processes. That’s why I believe in putting people first. When teams feel trusted, supported, and genuinely enjoy working together, they produce better outcomes, higher quality work, and more sustainable results. If people dread Monday mornings, something is wrong, and it’s worth fixing.
I believe Agile is at its best when its principles are lived rather than followed as dogma. Frameworks are tools, not religions. Agile, Waterfall, and everything in between all have their place, and the best outcomes often come from understanding the problem first rather than forcing a particular methodology onto it.
My role is to help teams become the best version of themselves. That means creating an environment where people feel safe to speak up, experiment, make mistakes, and learn from them. Failure is not something to be feared. It’s often where the most valuable lessons are found.
As a servant leader, I see leadership as a responsibility, not a position. A leader’s job is to support their team, remove obstacles, shield them from unnecessary pressure, and create the conditions for success. When teams are empowered, trusted, and given room to grow, extraordinary things can happen.
