Welcome to DeskRabbit!
You’ll find practical resources, stories from more than 20 years in the tech industry, and the occasional opinion piece that ignores political correctness the way BMW drivers ignore indicators.
It’s everything I’ve learned, broken, fixed, questioned, and occasionally sworn at, all gathered in one place. If you’ve ever worked in tech, there’s a good chance you’ll recognise yourself in at least a few of the stories.
Oh, and there are a few pieces of geeky merchandise too. Because every good rabbit hole needs a gift shop.

Behind DeskRabbit
Pieter Esterhuizen
Senior Scrum Master / Agile Delivery Lead
I started my career in IT in 2001, convinced that technology was the answer to every problem.
After nearly 20 years working across telecommunications, financial services, and the dairy industry, supporting everyone from start-ups to global enterprises, I discovered something much more important.
Technology rarely fails because of technology.
Projects stall because teams lose trust. Delivery slips because priorities become unclear. Great people burn out when they’re buried under unnecessary process, conflicting expectations, or constant pressure.
The biggest difference between high-performing teams and struggling ones isn’t the tools they use. It’s how they work together.
That realisation changed the direction of my career.
Today, I help organisations build teams that communicate better, collaborate more effectively, and deliver with confidence. My technical background allows me to understand the challenges engineers face, while my experience as a Scrum Master and Delivery Lead helps leaders create environments where those teams can thrive.
I’m not interested in agile for agile’s sake. I’m interested in helping people do their best work.
Because when people feel trusted, supported, and connected to a shared purpose, delivery becomes more predictable, quality improves, innovation follows, and Monday mornings stop feeling like something to survive.
That’s the kind of team I help build.
I’d Love to Help Your Team!
I Am An Experienced…
Senior Scrum Master
I believe great results come from empowered people and healthy teams. As a Senior Scrum Master, I help create an environment where individuals feel supported, teams can collaborate effectively, and challenges are addressed before they become barriers to success.
Agile Coach
Change is ultimately about people, not processes. I work alongside teams and leaders to build confidence, strengthen relationships, and foster ways of working that help people adapt, grow, and thrive together.
Delivery Lead
Successful delivery is about more than meeting deadlines. I bring people together around a shared purpose, helping teams and stakeholders navigate complexity, make informed decisions, and achieve outcomes that matter.
Facilitator
The best ideas often emerge when people feel heard and included. I create engaging and collaborative spaces where individuals can contribute openly, explore different perspectives, and work together toward meaningful outcomes.
Team Performance Coach
High-performing teams are built on trust, communication, and a genuine commitment to one another’s success. I help teams strengthen these foundations, unlock their potential, and create a culture where people can do their best work and enjoy doing it.
My Approach & Philosophy
Your business deserves more than projects that simply get finished.
You want teams that consistently deliver value, adapt quickly to change, and enjoy coming to work. You want predictable delivery without burning people out. You want healthy collaboration, clear communication, and a culture where problems are solved before they become roadblocks.
But getting there isn’t easy.
Many organisations struggle with unclear priorities, disconnected stakeholders, missed deadlines, overloaded teams, and ways of working that no longer support the pace of modern software delivery. Even talented people can become frustrated when they’re trapped by inefficient processes, conflicting expectations, or constant firefighting.
That’s where I come in.
With almost 20 years in technology and the last six years leading agile delivery as a Scrum Master and Delivery Lead, I help organisations build teams that don’t just work harder. They work better. My background in technical support gives me the ability to understand both the technology and the people behind it, allowing me to bridge the gap between business goals and delivery teams.
A simple path to better delivery
1. Understand your world
I spend time learning your business, your teams, your challenges, and what success looks like for you. Every organisation is different, so the solution should be too.
2. Strengthen the way your teams work
Together we’ll improve collaboration, remove delivery bottlenecks, create healthy team habits, and introduce practical agile practices that make sense for your environment.
3. Build lasting momentum
The goal isn’t just delivering the next project. It’s creating confident, self-managing teams that continue improving long after the engagement has finished.
What’s at stake?
Without the right support, delivery problems rarely solve themselves. Technical debt grows, teams become disengaged, talented people leave, and customers lose confidence when commitments aren’t met. Over time, these issues become expensive and much harder to reverse.
But when your teams have clarity, trust, and the right leadership, everything changes. Delivery becomes more predictable. Collaboration improves. Teams become happier and more resilient. Stakeholders gain confidence, customers receive value sooner, and your organisation is better equipped to respond to whatever comes next.
Your people are your greatest investment. When they succeed, your business succeeds.
